Analysis of SKELETAL WARRIORS
Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)
Skeletal warriors hunt
Alone on lonely hillsides,
Where battles once were waged;
Unaware of passing on
Unaware the war has finished,
Unaware of passing decades.
Lifeless grey-boned figures
Questing for living foes,
To reek their chaos upon;
Eager for the days of old
When lives were sold so cheap,
As wars were fought and won.
Steal-wielding creatures
Bones and oozing ichor,
Swinging rusty swords;
Fighting erstwhile battles
Against long-dead enemies,
For decrepit earls or lords.
Reliving long-past battles
Long lost to history,
That few now can recall;
With lances drawn for combat
Riding upon dead ponies,
That aeons ago did fall.
Skeletal warriors yearning
For a swift return to fighting,
To wage war upon living men;
Hoping to cause mayhem
Upon cowering, shrieking soldiers,
As they wage bloody war again.
