Analysis of THE DARKLING
Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)
Terror drawing near
Man-shaped but without features,
The Darkling lives on fear.
The Darkling feeding
Upon fear and frustration,
Driving people mad.
The Darkling resides
Within all children's nightmares,
Feeding on their fears.
Living off sorrow
Terror and our mistrust,
The Darkling grows stronger.
The darkling spreading
Fear and chaos worldwide,
Feeding his evil thirst.
Living on terror
The Darkling sucks away fear.
Leaving false courage.
The Darkling visits
People when they're sleeping,
To slip inside their dreams.
