Analysis of THE DRUMMER

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

Drumbeat of terror
Reminds you of the evil,
Closing in on you.

The drummer brings death
To unwary listeners,
Playing The Last Post.

The Drummer beating
Ends life, hope, and reason,
Drums a tune of madness.

The Last Post sounds out
As the drummer brings down death,
To all listeners.

Drumming the death march
The drummer calls death upon,
Those who come to him.

The Drummer ends war
Ends all life and reason,
Beating out destruction.

Drumbeats sound at night
The Last Post coming closer
Killing all who hear.

The Drummer pounding
Upon his drum of death,.
Wiping out humanity.
