Analysis of CREATURES OF THE ID

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

Creatures from
Another race,
Obscenities
From outer space.

Creatures howling
In the mist,
Vulgarities
To crude to see;
Too sick for you
That crawl to me.

An eeriness
Engulfs the room,
Terror is stalking
Through the gloom;
Creatures lurking
Awaiting you,
You’re walking slowly
To your doom.

All the perversities
Of the night,
Are stalking you
Just out of sight;
Howling winds
The shutters scrape,
Doors that screech
As windows break.

Death adders hissing
At the night,
Striking in anger
Knowing no fright;
They help to lift
Off your inner mind’s lid,
To reveal monsters
Creatures from the Id.
