Analysis of THE ISLAND OF LOST SOULS

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

On an island in the South Pacific
Hope is lost to nightmare creatures,
Beings from the Gates of Hell
With horrid, blurry half-formed features.

On the island of lost souls
All hope of paradise is gone
Phantoms marooned on this world
A world where they don't belong.

Trapped here between two realms
On this trifle of an island,
With nothing here to keep them sane
No-one living to lend a hand.

Trapped upon the desert sands
Phantoms from another time,
Punished for a myriad years
Yet, they're guilty of no crime.

On the island of lost souls
Where only sorrow's ruling now,
No-one dares to make an escape
Even if they did know how.

An island of lost chances
Where lonesome spirits populate,
Lost to all humanity is seems
Lost in time, and lost in space.

Caught between dimensions
They have no hope of redemption,
Forced to suffer for all time
All hope is lost, without exemption.
