Analysis of THE MOOSEMAN

A giant man-like creature
With great antlers-like horns,
Moving in toward civilisation
Where terror is soon reborn.

Street gangs hide in fear
Of the unnamed moose man,
Bellowing like a mutant elk
Spreading terror 'cross the land.

Innocents flee from his presence
Murderers run away shrieking,
Hoping in their blackened hearts
It isn't them the monster's seeking.

Slowly down the darkened alleys
The moose man walks by night,
Bringing fear and trembling to
Those who see him in the moonlight.

Bellowing his malevolent intent
He quickly hunts his victims down,
Charging like an enraged bull
As he drags them to the ground.

Feasting on man or animal
He feeds until he's had his fill,
Hunting through the angry night
Killing those he chooses at will.

No-one living can stop him as
He terrorises a lonely village,
Committing murder and mayhem
To destroy, to rape, to pillage.

Only at the arrival of dusk
Does the moose man slowly depart,
To hide away in the daylight
Until at twilight his rampage restarts.

THE END

About this poem

Hollywood film representations often label human/beast hybrids featuring antlers or horns with the "wendigo" name, but such animal features do not appear in the original indigenous stories. Hence I have only called my antlered being a "mooseman".
