Analysis of THE DOOM-CURSED NIGHT

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

The doom-cursed night abounds
With all manner of abominations,
Like nothing ever seen before
Across the whole wide nation.

Fearful atrocities are lurking
Outside in every shadowy nook,
Readying to leap upon you:
Manticore, wendigo, Babadook.

Wingbeats flapping overhead
As fearsome reptiles soar,
Hidden safely locked inside
You hear pounding on the door.

Do not let it in your house
And never venture outside!
Or you could be in oblivion
Upon the night you died.

Evil predators are shrilling
To call together their pack,
So when an innocent goes by
Murderously they can attack.

The doom-cursed night brings
Only terror to the sane,
Having survived the awful night
They'll never go out after dark again.

Elephantine shoggoths hovering
Outside your windows at night,
Forcing you to cower in bed
Until the coming of daylight.

The doom-cursed night awaits you
If you're foolhardy enough to go,
Into the hellish night climes
That no-one living knows.

THE END
