Analysis of The Alchemy of Evangelism
Karl Constantine FOLKES 1935 (Portland)
Christianity is the process.
Revelation is the goal.
The pilgrim with a new mold.
A mold of discovery
of the true nature of Self;
of our image and our likeness.
By alchemy of fire,
a fire of transformation,
of water and of spirit…
we become set apart;
set apart for holiness,
as saints of the Almighty.
Birth, death and resurrection
is the alchemical process;
of becoming a new holy vessel…
with our body and our spirit,
yoked and bound together;
in service to the Almighty.
A yoke that is easy,
and a burden that is light;
for the redemption of humanity.
Through a Refiner’s Fire,
all dross is turned to gold;
by alchemy of transformation.
The alchemy of evangelism
is the alchemy of transformation;
obtaining healing through wholeness.
Christianity is the process.
Revelation is the goal.
Th pilgrim with a new mold.

About this poem
A Refiner’s Fire is an alchemical process in which the alchemist or metaphysician melts down a base metal for purification purposes. Once this state has been achieved , the dross of the metal surfaces, is removed, and then cooled. This analogy of the Jungian psychological process of Individuation, or the Christian doctrine of being transformed and becoming a “New Man” in the Christian Faith, is described pictorially in the book of Malachi, chapter 3:2-3, which reads, in part, “For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap. ” This poem, “The Alchemy of Evangelism ,” makes the observation that The Second Testament of The Holy Bible can be considered in its entirety, from the book of Matthew, to the book of Revelation, as serving as a metaphorical refiner’s fire that ultimately , through “New Man” transformation, brings revelation or enlightenment to the unyielding pilgrim or disciple. more »
