Analysis of In the still of the night

Alan Greer 1960 (Paisley)

In the still of the night

In the still of the night
When all mankind is sleeping
When lovers kiss
And the lonely lay weeping

In the still of the night
When children are at rest
When mothers sleep
As daytime is a test

In the still of the night
When animals move around
People rarely see them
As they offer little sound

In the still of the night
When owls screech and hoot
Little mice and creatures
Move silently underfoot

In the still of the night
The moon does cast its glow
Lighting up the land
Showing us where to go

In the still of the night
Where dreams often wake
Nightmares make you shudder
Quiver and shake

In the still of the night
Sitting by the campfire
Watching flames flicker
Is a sight I admire

In the still of the night
Oooohhhhh what a lovely sight.......
