Analysis of Who is this Girl

Who is this Girl?

Who is this girl with deep scarlet marks
trailing her body for no one to see?
Embarking on a journey
One quite dreadful.
Leaving behind something almost delightful
Who is this girl dancing with an enemy?
One neither man nor creature
Her foes are those of silver and her own mentality
She dances against herself
Leaving behind something so very familiar
Who is this girl who loses control?
Perhaps as she dances to one last vision
Surrounded by the enemy covered in crimson
She finally did listen
Who is this girl dancing no longer?
As this time, she moved to close to the sun.
Lying limp with the enemy and filled with regret she finally slept.

About this poem

I wrote this poem to express my struggles with my mental health. Poetry has always been an escape for me. I often take inspiration from my own feelings or hardships as a way to heal. I used this poem to discuss the addictiveness of self-harm and how easy it is to get carried away.
