Analysis of Dunes
Wind gusts rush in from the north at dusk
strafing contours of sprawling sand dunes
By morning, my footsteps will be erased
as if my yesterday never really happened
This undulating blanket of sand morphs
grain by grain, step by step, into vistas
as smooth as a mountain’s snow field
stark yet soft like an Arizona high desert
Dusk defines crests and ephemeral ledges,
how infinitesimal granules build mountains
just as forgotten moments built our lives
Tomorrow, I pray, offers me a clean slate
