Analysis of June

June lets her hair down
Down, down, to the ground!
Long and lush, like the grass between my toes
Lovely, dark and deep, is how it grows!
June lets her hair down
And ivy climbs the trees
Along the ground and over the paths
Sweeping under the bees
Ah, June lets her hair down
Birds in the trees,
Flowers smelling beautiful,
Laughter on the breeze!
Pool side, ocean side, picnic at the lake,
Games in the meadow, lovers on the take!
June lets her hair down
Evening wind subsides
Sunset sweeps the vista
Cricket’s chirps arise
June lets her hair down
And children go to sleep
While older folks reminisce
‘Neath starlight, bright and sweet
June lets her hair down
To one more time surmise
Perchance to dream again
Gently, she closes her eyes

About this poem

June on Long Island, NY, is the perfect month and place. The imagery of a woman letting her long, lush hair down coupled with all that June brings was fun to write!
