Analysis of There's a Terror in my Home
John A. Burnett 1949 (Jersey City)
There's a terror in my home,
that I could not express.
I couldn't tell you of the things,
that you would never guess.
But would have you believed me,
or would you have some doubt.
If I were to tell you,
there's a monster in my house.
Looking back, I now regret,
never telling anyone.
I thought no one would listen,
I thought that I'd be shunned.
The horrors I experienced,
no one should ever have to bear.
That's why I'm finally speaking,
these words you need to hear.
When someone, who's supposed to love you,
becomes your worst nightmare.
You owe it to yourself and others,
to escape, get out of there.
There's no one eviler,
so loathsome or so vile.
To do what he has done to you,
to prey upon a child.

About this poem
I wrote this poem after I read a heart wrenching post about a girl who was molested by her step father.
