Analysis of Why Choose to Die When You Can Fly

Why choose to die when you can fly?
Little bird, try and spread your wings across the sky.

Because after you’ve tried and there’s no one to guide,
you’re left with sorrow that carries to tomorrow.
You no longer desire to even go higher
with such a steep slope and so little hope.

You scream, you cry, and you try to defy
that the only last hope is to say your good-bye.

Because you live to survive and you thrive for a drive
that will give you a reason to continue to strive.
Yet there is no cure even if you endure
you’re just unsure and you just want to feel secure.

You scream, you cry, and you try to defy
that the only last hope is to say your good-bye.

Because you hide a lonely soul and
no one can see that growing hole.
Sometimes you lose all control and
life itself is such a big toll.
Not a selfish act, to be exact
for do you have a voice, do you even have a choice?

Why choose
to die when you can fly?
Little bird, try and spread your wings across the sky.

You choose an end because you can’t mend
but please don’t spend your life’s end
because you can’t yet comprehend
that life has its beauty,
that you were chosen to live this life.

So little bird, try again and again even if it hurts
for I shall be your guide.

About this poem

I wrote this poem with the purpose to console the hearts of those who contemplate on suicide and ending their lives every day. I wanted to let those people know they're not alone and that there are people that truly know how miserable they feel. Yet, I also wanted to give hope that there's more to life and that death would be a waste. The things I wish someone would say to me whenever I have dangerous thoughts are the things I decided to write in this poem.
