Analysis of COTTON IN THE SKY

I used to kick back in the grass
and let the world go by
I'd just lay back and watch the clouds
of cotton in the sky
I'd block out all the noise,
the silence was every place
And gentle winds would softly blow
the grass across my face
The skies were oh so blue then,
the air was so fresh and clean
the sun was so much brighter then,
the grass so soft and green
There was no stress or problems,
no fear of things to come
there was no job or bills to pay,
just endless days of fun
The funny thing is way back then
I wanted to be grown
to stay up late, hang out with friends,
and do things on my own
But now that I am older,
I miss the summers gone
I miss those times of kicking back
and playing in the sun
I guess as we grow older
we finally realize
that being young was not that bad
and just how fast time flies
So in your youth enjoy your time,
for it will soon fly by
and take the time to watch the clouds
of cotton in the sky

About this poem

After graduating from college, getting married, and starting to work full time, I sometimes missed my youthful days of kicking back without a care in the world.
