Analysis of The Hubris of I-ness

Karl Constantine FOLKES 1935 (Portland)

At war with ourselves
Ego as the Mastermind
Battling our psyche
The soul now wounded by a
Self-inflicted malady.

Selah: Pause of Contemplation

Hubris of I-ness
Genetic Achilles Heel
To make us falter
With bloated anxieties
To think we have become gods.

We are all broken
Broken with audacity
Pompous idiots
And without regulations
Puffed up with bloated egos.

Selah: Pause of Contemplation

Media cajoles
Like Eve in Eden’s garden
Offering poison
Offered falsely as nectar
With maladies and no cures.

Dysregulation
That is what we suffer from
Native pandemic
Pandemic of the ego
And media is culprit.

Selah: Pause of Contemplation

Media allures
As Siren of the Airwaves
She shows no limits
Enchanting with sweet nectar
Our temptress and our lover.

Dysregulation
Dis-Individuation
Of human psyche
Our virulent pandemic
 And it’s media triggered.

About this poem

A Confessional Poem of I-ness: By the hubris of I-ness, we distance ourselves from our own true inner selves. Our most virulent pandemic of the 21st Century that overrides COVID-19, is the hubris of ego that feeds and festers on the soul of modern humanity; and which should give us cause to reflect and contemplate. In this poem I describe this outrageous hubris of I-ness as “Pompous Dysregulation.” The Hubris of I-ness, is a hubris syndrome that manifests itself most definitively with excess, particularly when people are in positions of excessive power and authority. Pompous dysregulation, unrecognized as a malady, displays no need for sobriety or moderation. And yet it must be called a dysregulation because, in its haughtiness, it becomes poorly regulated and, in extreme cases, unregulated to the point where absolute power corrupts absolutely. We have become today, a lost generation, dis-individuated, disregulated, overly pompous with the hubris of ego, courted and manipulated by electronic-communications media; and desperately in search of the return to a more sober moral identity as Homo Sapiens. This is the unrecognized pandemic malady of the 21st Century that haunts humanity most fiercely with deadly viciousness: The Hubris of I-ness.
