Analysis of I’m not the young lady you expected

I’m not the young lady you expected.
Written by:Kelsey Erickson

I’m not the young lady you expected
She’s tall and blond.
She doesn’t forget her homework
or get a grade below 90%.
She sits up straight and
always does her chores.
She piles on Makeup, is proper
and poise. She takes an hour
to look perfect in the
morning, and She only talks about boys
and dresses up. She needs help to
change a light bulb and
can’t park to save her life.
She wears gold and silver jewelry.
and looks like an hourglass.
She has to count her carbs
so she can look good in her
dresses and bikinis with long
pink fake nails. She won’t talk back
She’ll watch as people walk
all over her, and correct her,
so she fits into the beauty standard.
She’ll listen to you mansplain and
act like shes interested.
She’ll cook for you like you expected.
but that’s not me, because
I’m not the young lady you expected
I wear sweats and baggy t-shirts.
I eat a chocolate bar once in a while.
I go quading and hunting. I know
how to change a tire and check
my oil. I have rolls and stretch marks
and a double chin. But I am beautiful.
I don’t walk around in a bikini, I wear
a one piece with a tee overtop.
I can drive and park a truck. I have
passenger road rage and I don’t have
to wear makeup to leave the house.
I fails tests, get bad grades, and
forget about homework.
Im clumsy and foolish,
I get insecure around certain people.
What’s the big deal? I play sports
and get sweaty.
I play video games and
rage. I break things and forget
to sweep. I slouch in my seat
and listen to rap. Not all of
my jewelry is silver and gold.
I wear clunky chains and rings
with homemade bracelets and
necklaces. I dye my hair all
sorts of colours, and I don’t
spend an hour styling it
in the morning. My nails aren’t
always done and sometimes
they’re even dirty.
“OMG that happens to girls?!?”
Yes, it does and it doesn’t
matter because we are
human just like everybody else
and we don’t have to
live up to your standards. But still,
I’m not the young lady you expected
And I NEVER will be.
