Analysis of HUNTED

Phil Roberts 1957 (Melbourne)

Human prey is hunted
Within the loathsome night,
Carnivores are prowling
Innocents are about to die.

Scaly horrors are slithering
Across the sunburnt sand,
Seeking out human victims
Within this death-curse land.

After Darkfall descends
Monstrosities are prowling,
Families are huddling tight
Innocent babes are howling.

Primates from a distant time
Climbing roofs and steeples,
To break through windows
Slaughtering all the sleepers.

Ancient saurians are hunting
To smash in, steal, plunder
Within this abhorrent place
Foul voices boom like thunder.

Pterosaurs are flapping
Centimetres overhead,
Hunting for the guileless
The wily have already fled.

Human prey is hunted
By foul nightmare beasts,
Soon to be a part of
An awful midnight feast.
