Analysis of The Sparrow

Meng Wing Siong 1960 (Philippines)

As I peep into the outside world
when dawn breaks every single day,
little black sparrow comes by to say hello then flies away;

But hovers back around, high and low, far and near..
I could see her smile yet her looks draped in confusion and fear;

Where`s my home?..she`d chirp aloud,
her eyes no longer aglow..
Thence poor little songbird bids farewell,
but seems nowhere to go;

Bricks and stones sprouting all over,
rivers have ceased to flow..
Blue skies raging in red, as north winds wildly blow..
Trees turning brown, flowers forget to bloom..
Rainforests disappearing, her home cast in gloom;

Ooh what have we all done?
Birds and other friends are almost gone..
So songs of our time I sing for my friend the sparrow..
That someday mankind wakes up and ease her sorrow.

About this poem

It`s sad to see the destruction of mother nature. It`s a pity to see some birds and other friendly species nearing extinction or are already extinct due to climate disruptions caused largely by humans. It really is a sad state and mother earth needs what little contributions we could make..hence, the songs of our time, and hence, the poem..
