Analysis of Time Races

                                TIME RACES
I can’t remember the color of my mom’s old Studebaker or the kind of jeans I wore that year.

But I remember lilacs sweet and thick outside my bedroom window.

And I remember quite clearly racing down North Hambden hill on my bike with the wind whistling past my ears.

I wish I’d known then that the years would fly by just as fast…

I might have listened to the whippoorwill more intently at dusk to capture his melody for the building of dreams that are today's memories.

Roller skates as a child were abandoned for pom-poms and prom dates.

Playing Yahtzee or Cribbage on the porch during a thunderstorm gave way to jeeps, corsages and letting my hair fly free from the back of
a motorcycle…as the wind would race.

I sometimes still feel the rush of wind past my ears as an unexpected surprise while walking the beach.

I pay more attention now…I know how time races, so I am collecting these treasures for tomorrow’s memories.
