Analysis of What We Humans Do

We were given eyes
Yet we still cannot see
The immeasurable treasures we hide within,
The heavy blankets of thorns we cover ourselves with,
The toxicity we keep stored in a corner of our souls.
For life already is too strict and cruel
And sometimes it feels safer to
Pretend and make ourselves a fool.
To withstand it all, to fight it all
It’s what we humans do.

We were given ears
Yet we do not want to hear
Words that trample over
Our stacked up self-esteem and cultured confidence,
Our painfully gained experiences and achievements,
Our striving efforts to drag ourselves for another day.
To withstand it all, to fight it all
It’s what we humans do.

We do not want to see nor hear
The essential truth behind
The false judgments and perceptions,
The reasons for such ongoing violence,
The story behind everyone’s anger and running tears.
To withstand it all, to fight it all
It’s what we humans do.

We were given mouths
Yet we thoughtlessly let them run.
The lasting scars we burn into already broken hearts,
The cherished hopes and dreams we violate and rob,
The regrets and remorse we drain ourselves into.
For we do not mean to say some things…
It would not be enough to let
Words of kindness and love be spread
Yet we strike each other with words of hate.
To withstand it all, to fight it all
It’s what we humans do.

To withstand it all, to fight it all
Just one moment at a time,
Just one day at a time
It’s what we humans decide to do.

About this poem

Living in this world, where reality has just been getting crueler, people can be observed to be changing; as living gets harder, many have been getting colder. I wrote this poem with the basis of my observance of the change in people, and with the possible reasons to why. People do not seem to have bad intentions- it is solely that people are all fighting to get through their every day. I wrote about some of things we humans do to withstand it all and to fight it all.
