Analysis of il Vero Artista

Morgan Spevak 1997 (Naperville, Illinois)

Enveloped by the Embassy
Weeping whispers swell
Grasping wistful gestures,
His quivering bow hairs quell
Black and white mirages
Engraved in every mind
Black and white mirages
Where his clock of Passion chimes
Green and white for Talent
Green and white for Pay
But when he stands to take a bow,
They take it all away.
And on top of the roof of the Embassy
Dwell phantoms of artists past
Stirring and awakening
To a desperate cymbal crash
Floating to the wings
They see his head stoop low
But the riches they discover
Steal the sorrow of the show
For what lies inside a True Artist’s heart
If not glorious light and love?
Enveloped by the Embassy
Proven with God’s stars above.

About this poem

This poem was inspired by the talented musicians of the Fort Wayne Philharmonic in Indiana who are on strike due to very unfair treatment from management.
