Analysis of In Need of Peace

Terrence Brown 1980 (Chicago, IL)

There are emotions running through my mind.

They are trying to find their way out.

They know the way to get out is through the mouth.

The mouth is ready to speak, but there is no one to talk to now.

Oh no, the emotions have to stay in.

My emotions are mad because they can't come out.

My emotions are trapped.

Trapped in a place where they are dying to come out.

When they finally have a chance to come out, they will be like hot lava erupting from a volcano.

Then my heart, body, and soul will be like a volcano when it is done erupting, calm and at peace.

About this poem

In this world we find ourselves holding all our emotions inside from ourselves and others. When we do want to talk, we may run into obstacles such as noone being available to talk. More and more emotions build up causing longing for someone to talk to.

Terrence Brown

I was born in Chicago, Il, and raised by my eldest aunt in a small, rural town; Portland, AR. I currently reside in San Francisco, CA. I have six siblings; I am the oldest. Learning new things and challenging myself are two of my most positive personal characteristics. Several years ago, my aunt suggested that I write a poem to one of my loved ones whom I was missing in my life. Not knowing what to write, I decided to sit in my room and search my heart and soul for guidance. My poem then evolved. Ever since that day, I realized my love for writing poetry. It is now my desire to share my love of poetry with others and to connect with others of like mind. more…
