Analysis of An Other
They put me in another room
The unstoppable rays of the sun caught me
They spoke over my soft voice
The roar of the ocean waves taught me
They saw me differently than who I was
My presence causing a stir
My essence fading to a blur - their loss
Their sneers veiled with smiles
Their gaze rendering me invisible
I walked miles, until I ran
I ran through fields of tall grass until I stood tall and proud
I swam across oceans until I soared
I merged with a galaxy of stars in an eternal cosmic dance.
You need my light, my gentle permission
You need my love, my loud admission
You need my color, my unshakable fervour
You need this "other", you need me, my brother
You need this "leader", you need me, my sister

This poem is about racial equality, written by a brown woman of color who has migrated from India to North America. I write this on Martin Luther King Day as I connect with his spirit.
