Analysis of Avenue of tall trees

The dank sky
exploded a deluge
of rain
Spider lightning flashed
from black stratiform
clouds
A cavalcade of trombones
thundered
over the charcoal  Landscape
of the
Benbradagh mountains

In the storm
a solitary figure
trudges through the
Roe valley as the angry
rain flagellates
all in its path.
As he stops to take a swig
from
his hip flask
his cigarette turns into
mush.

A few feet away the river
roars
into a maelstrom.
He contemplates jumping in.
He imagines
what it would be
like to no longer exist.
To completely
disappear .
He’s eager to do it.
He feels warm
inside at the
thought
of it.

In an avenue of tall trees
he sits down on a grassy
mound.
He takes off his shoes
and Peter Storm coat.
He stands up
and walks to the edge of
the river bank.
He feels the chains that
held him captive fall and
clank at his feet.

The river smiles
and holds out her arms
to him.
He closes his eyes and jumps…….
