Analysis of Betray
You yell
I flinch
I try to be
Stoic and still
But my eyes betray me
Fear
Yet still, you hug me
And somehow I find
You are my safety
I’m left confused, dismayed
It’s true you say you love me
But your words are betrayed
I can see it in your eyes
Vacancy
It’s then I know
Your truth is full of lies
We laugh
Pretending is a game
Block it out, forget the past
No little girl has lost her name
Everything is fine
But my hands betray me
Trembling
But you’ll never see
Because I smile and say
I’m fine

About this poem
I’ve just been working through some things in therapy, and that work has gotten me back into writing. This is my first poem in over a decade. Thank you for reading it.
