Analysis of Do For You
We had come from a generation where man do for a woman
My people are old school
And today's people break this rule
I had indepependance I done for a man
I been let down and burnt down
I didn't loose my life that I couldn't turn it around
I have very little left of me to hold my crown
I live in the country far away
I know it's where I lay my head to pray
I didn't belong in the community because of being part deaf
Country living is all I have left
With family heritage I'm blessed to be here
I must pray to God and not live in fear
It's been too long not meeting the right man
It's too long not living by God's right hand
I'm a little old lady going to live with my new cat
Finding something to love seems like many are against that
I wasn't put on this earth to be alone
By now I'm an old grey haired crone

About this poem
My poem; "Do For You "is about our tradional patriarchal old belief that a man take care of a woman and provide for her. Women need men for survival because it's still a man made world. I think we have confusing roles today with alot of social changes. I was married for 20 yrs but didn't expect to see all the changes how life is hard and love is harder after my divorce. My poem is biography to express real life experience and awareness.
