Analysis of Our Prithee

In the stillness
Of the melancholy twilight,
Two bodies connectied as one
In pleasure,
Elation,
And ecstacy.
The world fades away,
As they sway in passion's undulate.

Their love is a sacred ceremony,
A peaceful giving
Of themselves to each other,
No judgments,
No hypocrisy,
Just pure,
Unadulterated pleasure.

But outside their motel rooms door,
The world rages on with its wars.
Political leaders send young people forth,
To fight and die for their beliefs,
Of little value.

Hypocrisy reigns supreme,
As religious leaders
Condemn with such utmost,
While turning a blind eye
To their own sins,
As innocent lives
Are sacrificed
Again and again.

In this world of chaos
And despair,
Two lovers
Find solace in each other's arms,
As they move inside of each other.
But a world
That values war over love,
Can only lead to heartbreak
And strife
In excess.

Our prithee,
May the future find a way
To embrace peace,
To set aside
Their differences
And hate to escape.
Our prithee,
May they value life
Above political gain,
And remember
That love,
Not war,
Will be
Their greatest victory.

Joe Strickland

I'm just a regular, blue collar, working stiff who took an interest in writing poetry many years ago but until recently I haven't had a desire to share any with anyone or pursue publication. I'm an unpublished fork lift operator by night, and a day drinker by choice. I can be followed on Twitter @JoeStricklandSC more…
