Analysis of Tears of a Dead River
Popy Chowdhury 1975 (Khulna)
Here was a deep, long, and youthful river,
Full of water; transparent, clear, and giver
Water flowed over his broad heart,
Through the meadows, towards the destination chart
Like is a restless, dancing girl; bright and free
By the side of the field, grass and tree.
My ancestors, grandfather, and great grandfather
Everyone, used to drink its water.
They were healthy and strong,
It’s a narrow canal now, is something wrong!
People no longer drink the water of this river,
Even animals don't like to drink it ever.
The color of water is black, and smells bad
We are responsible for this, but we don't feel sad.
Polythene, dyeing chemicals, tannery waste all mixed like jam,
The other side is the monster, demon Farakka Dam.
Tide its current, tide its flow and dart,
Tide the great, youthful river's heart.
Now it is tired, narrow, and being desert,
Lost wave's flow of his loving sweetheart!
But, I want to be optimistic, to be dreamer,
Dream a livable world and dream to make it greener.
Dream an eco-friendly environment, lively along
Overflow’s river with a cheerful song.
