Analysis of The Bridge of Dreams
I stand alone within my wandering mind,
And all outside can see the absence plain;
My thoughts provide no balm to ease my brain
For no respite my lost attention finds.
In everything and all that I attempt,
Despite the best intentions and desire,
I find attention flickers like a fire,
And life's distractions find me in contempt.
And when I enter into such a state,
There stands a great divide between the lands.
Upon one side the luscious trees appear
Within its garden green a peace awaits.
A bridge across the reverie's chasm spans
And opposite this green, the world I fear.
Though I would give my fortunes to commend
My thoughts across the span to walk in green,
Forget the barbarous things in life I've seen
And live where dreams can play without an end.
The barren world I always seek to flee,
To sing and paint the dreams of my mind's eye,
Still shouts and taunts obscenities to try
To claw and pull my mind so jealously.
So trapped I stand above the chasm there.
Intrusions on my solace drag me back
To where the world like whirling banshees scream.
But I am also pulled to forests fair.
And nothing pains me more to know I lack
The will to walk across the Bridge of Dreams.

About this poem
I have taken the form of a Petrachan Sonnet and modified the rhyming structure a little, but not much. It is a piece written in frustration as I found concentrating on creating artistic works increasingly difficult
