Analysis of Beneath The Surface

Like the lake,
She appeared calm
And peaceful on the surface,
Her waters still as glass.
But below, chaos brewed,
A war between fishes,
Each devouring the other,
Desperate to survive
In the depths of her soul.

She wore a smile, serene,
Like ripples on the lake,
Which concealed the turmoil
Raging inside,
As fangs bared,
And scales clashed,
Consuming their kin
In a ruthless dance of survival.

She moved through the world
With grace and poise,
Her demeanor steady,
A calm facade
Over the battleground within.
But her depths held secrets,
Like treasures hidden,
Buried beneath the waves,
Betrayals and secrets,
A whisper of madness,
Echoing through the stillness.

She carried this weight,
Unseen, unspoken,
Like the weight of the ocean
Resting on her chest,
A burden only she could bear,
Because beneath her calm exterior
A tempest brewed,
Churning, thrashing,
Struggling for release.

And as I stood on her shore,
Admiring the serenity of her surface,
I couldn't help but wonder,
What demons lurked,
What battles were fought,
In the war-torn waters
Of this silent lake.

I'm just a regular, blue collar, working stiff who took an interest in writing poetry many years ago but until recently I haven't had a desire to share any with anyone or pursue publication. I'm an unpublished fork lift operator by night, and a day drinker by choice. I can be followed on Twitter @JoeStricklandSC more…
