Analysis of Eyes Open

John Crobons 1947 (Michigan)

Eyes slide open
A new day bright.
I'm still here hopen
But somethings are just not right!

To many old things
Look brand new!
To many new things
One of them might be you!

That grassy noel on the hill
Was that there the other day?
The promise of the bill
Is that, what the politician say?

There's a new war waging!
What happened to the last?
Am I aging
Or is what's happening now, in the past?

Is all of this for real
Or is some of it pretend?
Can fire really burn through steel?
Does truth really bend?

Can tall buildings really fall
With out effort, just from the air?
Of this there is no recall
Does seem strange, that no one cares!

Is there any thing that can be trusted?
Of what is there that we can depend?
The Government says, "We are busted".
"But trust us, we're on the mend!

Seems minds are filled
With games of sport!
All the while being billed
As millions sneak in to port!

I listen to the lies
On a daily basis,
And wonder why
We still behold their faces!

After a pause
To reflect and see
It is clear the laws
Are really not for you and me!

Does no one care?
Can no one see?
All this despair
Is not set up to keep us free!
