Analysis of Goodbye... for the Last Time

When I said goodbye to you for the last time
Little did I know
A part of me couldn't stay behind
That part had to go too
Fragments of my mind
Still hold on to memories
Showing less of me and more of you
We had so many stories
And many more we could have told
If only you didn't have to go
Leaving me here on my own
Feeling alone and sadly growing old
With no fun left to be had
How long can a grieving heart last
I've already cried a river of tears
And said a prayer or two
But, I'm still here, and still without you
When I said goodbye to you for the last time
Little did I know
How my heart would break
I don't know how to fill the hole
That losing you left behind
If I could go back in time
A few more poloroids I would take
Even silly poses are a precious keepsake
You had a soul that was one of a kind
Never met a stranger that wasn't worthy of your attention
Taking care of people and children seemed to have been your earthly mission
You had love and passion that couldn't be measured
Just having the smallest increment of time with you
Was truly the greatest treasure

About this poem

Writing this poem helped me with the loss of my momma. It really made me take a deeper look at not only who she was in her children's eyes, but also through the eyes of all the ones she helped out. It brought back memories I had forgotten.
