Analysis of Thou art

Charles Fields II 1955 (Fort Bragg, NC)

Were that there
was never the need

To give some hope,
share some belief

Having only a tiny spark
within the core

Not just of all we are here, now
All that we can ever be

Stepping back to
when the family tree

Was on its first seed.

When we were forced to cope
with scores of unknown maladies,

knowing
untold atrocities.

Struggling against
all odds

Competing for the fruits
of our desires

Before speech, writing, fire
those of our kind

even competing against
Our own kin.

As if Jesus had
an evil twin

Who existed before recorded times

Then the revolution came.

When the hopelessness
merged into the insanity.

When the shroud of destiny
 obscured the apparent fate
of humanity

Cumulative, objectively,
both individually and collectively.

Cast into this world and time
seeds of our vine

bearing the fruit
of all it is we are

In depths beyond
our apparent ability

to resist our vulnerabilities,

even when the enemy
lies within

Exit our daily trials
to seek higher ground

Building
our collective consciousness

that we may climb,

spiritually ascending
towards the eventuality

that our souls
may achieve peace
