Analysis of Whosoever
Charles Fields II 1955 (Fort Bragg, NC)
Whosoever
Feels the pain.
Knows the story of times like these,
when we’ve used up all our choices,
run out of friends who pretend to listen
to another of our one-sided stories
about how we’ve always tried To do our best,
but all we ever to seem to get done
is to find ourselves in a place
where there’s nowhere left to hide.
So, we run away from the sun,
only to find ourselves branded by karma.
We’ve tanned and singed our hides,
trashed the last traces of the façade
of a successful course in life
hurt by battles we may have won
if we’d never gave up trying to be the one,
we’d wanted deep at heart to be.
Now, look at us sick and tired
of doing What we wanted,
to get what seemed we needed
To succeed, only to find
a bottomless pit of empty feelings.
Not enough to satisfy the need
For love (Sometimes, not even a hug?)
Struggling at depth of heart
not to be disillusioned of it all
So here we are, two hearts
laying side by side, wounded (pride?)
Leaving us choking back tears,
or even worse holding back angry words,
our spirits voice cloaked in silence,
needing a soul transfusion from one another,
bleeding as if dying here
in the universal healing ocean of life,
telling one another stories
as if it’s our soul’s last ride.
Suffering sickness
we run from but cannot hide,
Built upon lies we’d sworn to,
yet failed to relieve In the balance
of those who have suffered our indifference,
in truth we’ve victimized,
next to all the tears we’re crying
if, what we would choose to believe
with all our heart and minds.
In giving back what’s due,
our conscience answering
like a prayer to preserve our mortal souls,
tears falling, stinging our eyes like acid rain.
Looking back into the stars of yesterdays,
dumbfounded at the cost,
still it’s so hard to find courage
to surrender our last will,
testify against
the devil in ourselves,
prepare to go
under the knife again,
when its impossible to undo
the unforgiving deeds, we’ve done.
Taking life for granted
as if, it could be seen
with our last moments labored breath
amidst the ruins of our egos,
castles built upon the shifting sands
of our mortally wounded pride
feeling that burning sensation
in the tenderest part of our insides
Look up just in time to see the sun
feel the Creator’s gift within our hearts,
coming at us from The core of our spiritual being
in our need to be Fulfilled in quiet tides,
a calling we each must answer, alone
at the most urgent moments in our lives,
skinny dipping in the truth,
with those who believe most as we do,
drinking also
From the well of souls,
we were drawn
from
And who
we’re destined
