Analysis of Invisibility

Charles Fields II 1955 (Fort Bragg, NC)

Hidden in plain sight

qualities in some respects
Meant to be clearly displayed,

In glorious visions
which you may explain
To others

as your way of life

Being enfolded
within your needs

In an unused corner
of your thoughts

Quietly resting
between your ideals

Not quite, what
you might expect

Something no one else
can quite see

Lying
beyond your beliefs

We pray for understanding,

some praying
for fortunes or great wealth

In your creative time
Nothing you can discern

will be worth your effort

If you cannot find the truth
You cannot find peace within yourself

If you have lost your health
When your time is done and gone

You’ve completely wasted
Your energies

And lost your natural mind
If you fail to pass on your loving ideas

Which seems to come to us
Mysteriously somehow,

When you show someone
Something of the loving truth

You’ve found hidden
within yourself,

Only proving of value
When it’s shared with someone else,

When you truly care for others
Sharing what we learn from one another

So important in our lives

Why this chain of ownership
of what cannot be possessed,

the ultimate test
the creator has given us

The gift we only receive
when we pass it on

What have you learned
in living?

What do you gain
by giving back?

It is in your original thought
which can’t be taught

A consciousness you only clearly see
when you are truly blind

it simply is
the truth
