Analysis of My Memoir
My Memoir
Written by Lori A. Powell

I saved 12 worms, 1 catapillar, and a spider from dying today
I go hiking and collect rocks then put them in my drive way
I ve seen Haley’s comet pass on by
The sun set into the oceans tide
I’ve seen a giant salamander only a few exist
A mother egret teach her young how to fish
I used to wear a Stenson hat and cowboy boots
When I was a bartender at the Red Dog Saloon
Had sex in the back of an old 62 Hearse
And when my life seemed to be at its worst
I Found Jesus on my way home in a grey hound bus.
He helped me more than anyone else
I grew up with Michael Jackson and the era of rock n roll
I’ve written two books a few songs and one commercial
This is what I’ve done with my life but I don’t have much to show.
I rode my bicycle with no hands then got a sports car so I can drive fast
I grew my hair long, down past my butt
Then got divorced and cut it all off.
Experienced natural child birth, once was enough
I have done a lot of art and crafts
I loved my kitties and my plants
Because they are the only ones who don’t talk back
Had hopes and dreams that didn’t come true
But I’ve made it this far which is further than most I knew.
I’m at the age where I can see
The life that was all about me
My mind remembers but my body is slow
I will take my memories with me when I go
It’s what I’ve done with my life but I don’t have much to show

About this poem
When I made it over the hill I stopped for a moment. Then I turned around to look back at where I had been. It was there that I could see the path that I had walked on. I realized that along the way the little things meant the most to me. They were my memories.
