Analysis of No More Goodbyes

I once stood where you stand today.
Once upon a time, I was an angry soul;
full of sadness and rage.
Not a very good combination; it takes its toll.
That kind of combination should be locked away in a cage.
But more often than not anymore, you hear about others just like you.
You begin to hear their stories; they sound so similar to your own.
See, I too know this raw feeling a little all too well, if I’m being honest and true.
I went from a bright eyed young girl with big hopes and dreams.
But something went wrong, maybe some wires got crossed; paths intertwined.
I was suddenly alone in this dark hole and nobody could hear my screams.
I would scream so loud, feeling so lost yet so confined.
My chest would begin to tighten, the pain inside would be so intense.
You’re struggling to breath right, just trying to stay afloat.
You would fight so damn hard but you had little to no defense.
You were alone inside that dark hole.
The sounds of your loved ones trying to call you home reached your ears but just not your soul.
Nothing against them, but you felt as if your soul felt lost.
You didn’t want to give up your faith but you were getting weak and making way too many mistakes.
Soon all of those mistakes would come to a cost.
But if you’re lucky enough, those voices calling you home can help slam down on those brakes!
They can help stop all of those nasty thoughts swarming angrily around inside of your head.
All of those ugly thoughts about yourself are buzzing like a disturbed hornets nest.
Your hearts racing again but you’re choosing to focus instead.
That’s good; follow those voices back home to where your mind can finally rest.
Follow the voices until you start to see the light out of this darkness.
You’re still young and have so much to live for; this is not your final test.
Shake all of that negativity out of you until your soul feels clean and new.
Trust me, you’ll know when you know, there is no mistaken a second chance at life.
Don’t take anything for granted, and always know that this too, you can get through.
But I need you to promise me something;
promise me that you will follow the voices.
Even if you feel so alone, nobody physically around; know that you have choices.
I’ll be your voice to cling onto; I’ll help guide you under my wing.
My wings are battered and broken, but they are still strong enough.
And I promise you that as long as you pray out to me, I will listen for you.
I will listen for your voice amongst the rest;  single you out just to hear your cries.
I will listen to you and hear your story; no interruptions, just promise me that there will be no more goodbyes.

About this poem

Written from someone who has battled bad depression, I just want to be a voice for others to hear/cling onto when they feel the most alone.

Chelsea Strater

I was diagnosed with depression at the early age of about 13/14 years of age, along with anxiety and later learned other issues such as PTSD. Writing poetry has helped save me by getting my thoughts out onto paper and trying to find a way to use it to help others to not suffer alone. more…
