Analysis of How Did I Not Know

My brain has been in the clouds
My thought’s been swirling round
Since my beautiful Mom’s passing~
Followed by my Son’s battle with cancer
My feet have not been on the ground

Then a moment comes
That deeply touches my heart
I think it is called reality
My friend and I now~
So very far apart

How could this be
How did I not know
I was worrying about stumbling
Where did the passing time go

My feet are firmly on the ground now
All the memories come clear and dear
When will we meet for tea again
A week~ A month~ A year

Time no longer measured
“I’m a comin, my friend
So keep the kettle on”
In an unmeasured moment
For now, a precious thought

Dedicated to the passing of my friend, Michelle
She passed on the exact day my Mom did

About this poem

I recentered the social media world last week. I was so shocked to learn that a special friend had passed 4 years ago, on the same exact day my Mom passed. My head has been in a cloud just about that long. I wrote this for my friend.
