Analysis of A Child in ‘23 (Innocent at Heart)

I’m confused as ever, what’s a Muslim, a Christian, a Jew?
All I know is all my friends at my school like snacks too.
And we don’t mind the rain, we aren’t afraid to brave the weather.  
We just don’t like to be alone, because we thrive when we’re together.
But I’m confused as ever, another lockdown drill today.
I don’t get these older humans half the time and what they say.
What’s the reason that we’re hiding?  The sun is out and we’re inside.
Is there something on the loose?  Are the dinosaurs alive?
Now a couple of years have passed, guess I’ve wizened up a bit.
I’ve seen the news a time or two and all the fear and hate in it.
They tell me I should change, that I should worry about tomorrow.
But a billion years from now there’ll be a billion more that follow.
I’d rather be the change, by not changing me at all.
I’m going to keep life bold and basic, like I did when I was small.
And soon I’ll be a tidal wave, though now I’m just a ripple.
I’ll be president someday, with the motto, “Keep it simple,
Mind your manners, please and thank yous, pay it forward once or twice.
And remember, you can change the world by simply being nice.”
Would that be such a rash campaign? Would that really be so wild?
To remember we were all one day, each one of us, a child.
