Analysis of Shattered Windows

Julia L Williamson 2002 (White Plains, NY)

The storm hits again, the winds
slamming. The bottoms
of her feet
bleed from the bed
of broken glass
falling from her chest
as she breathes,
as she speaks. A never
ending cycle of shattered
windows–broken hearts.

About this poem

I wrote this poem when I was going through a breakup. It was raining, and I was crying; when I took out my laptop to begin writing, my tears stopped. The title comes from the storm outside, and the emotions I felt during that time.

Julia L Williamson

My name is Julia Williamson! Poetry has always been my favorite form of writing. I focus mainly on love sonnets as I get most of my inspiration from my family, friends, or nature. I have a hard time piecing together my thoughts and feel it is easier to find a metaphor or simile to explain them. When I have conversations with people, I often have to write down what I mean because if I do not, it comes out wrong. Poetry comes straight from a person’s mind, my mind, and when it is written on a page, what seems to never make sense, finally does. It creates a space where I do not have to stress about how to execute my thoughts, which usually causes my mind to blank. Poetry is necessary for my life because it gives me an outlet to write my feelings or metaphorically speak my mind. They are easy for anyone to relate to if executed properly. A single poem can be interpreted in numerous ways and I think that is the beauty of poetry. more…
