Analysis of What's understood doesn't need to be explained

Mariah Mack 2005 (Georgia)

Wasted my time thinking he was a knight
You're doubts and queries left me exhausted
Was so eager to converse and share my light
Which left a hole in my heart never defrosted

I spoke my words, hoping to be heard
To comprehend with an open heart and mind
But you constantly push them like they are absurd
A gift so rare, but worth the effort grind

As I kept talking, I found myself becoming increasingly impatient.
I'm still striving to find an ear-receptive
Carelessly, leaving my hopes and dreams to rest
A listener who gives my words perspective

So let my sonnet be a gentle plea,
To listen, hear, and truly understand me.

About this poem

I wrote this poem because I had met this guy. I enjoyed talking to him, but eventually it became exhausting. I would always have to repeat myself, and he would question anything I said. It felt as if he was judging me, and I never gave any reason to do that to him.

Mariah Mack

I’m currently a senior in high school and this is my first time writing a poem. This was a assignment I did for my British lit class. I don’t exactly enjoy poetry, but when I wrote this, I ended up loving it. So I hope you do too. more…
