Analysis of Ojuelegba Sleep

Ojuelegba sleep
O, where is sleep
On this insomniac night
Aroused by songs of music
Blaring through the holy hours

As bachelors seek for bedmate
Husbands ran away from home
From the torment of their nagging wives
And adventure into the night
Making small talks, gist and boasting

Amidst the glistering lights
And the shaded dark corners
Are street girls calling out Johns
Putting up seductive appearance
Cat walking with such artificial smile

Their beauty may confuse you
All you see are not ladies of the night
Some are angels of darkness
Green snakes under green grass
Pretending to fall for you

Ojuelegba love
O, where is love
Just pay a thousand five hundred
And have her for the night
No strings attached!

Benson Chukwueke

Owerri, Nigeria since 1971. This is how I process and express my innermost cogitations; sitting back with pen and paper, painting words and polishing them until they become flowered verses. I guess for these actions, I could be called a poet or what do think? more…
