Analysis of Day Dream
My mind conjures up a place more detailed than a colonial vase
That has an intangible grace
There is a plethora of delilahs specifically flowers, not the ones blamed by men like Samson
And a field of carnations shaded crimson
I am in a hundred-year-old bungalow with floorboards that sing when I step
and that were buckled by tears wept
The roof slants toward the horizon, and it is overtaken by ivy and vermillion blossoms
I take in its ominous beauty and listen to the bees buzzing in harmony
I then walk barefooted to a river that is so still it mimics porcelain
and throw in seeds of cardamon
Making the river swirl like agate
And waking me from my daydream of magic

About this poem
This poem captures the places we can go when we let our minds travel. It also shows how day dreams can be reminders or symbols for things we care about. One instance in this poem is when It mentions Delilah and Samson. Delilah has been blamed throughout history. The name has become a symbol of betrayal. It is said that she betrayed her love Samson, but the story is always told without the detail that he was a murderous abuser. Therefore being an example of how society blames Woman. This became a symbol in the day dream hinting to feminism and how in my dream world misogyny is nonexistent. So instead of the world having woman who are unfairly criticized, it just has flowers which by chance are also called delilahs. Another symbol in this poem is how humans tend to ruin things deemed perfect as a habit. In the dream there is this still lake that the subject of my poem ruins, by creating ripples with a seed they tossed. more »
