Analysis of Beckoned

Dianne L. Holden 1949 (Louisiana)

Summoned to disaster on Eastern shores.
They called, you went, not knowing how.
Your mission they told you was to ease the mind
of those affected by this disastrous time.
The question of "How" was still in your head.
You toiled, talked, pleaded and begged,
offered your help to your brothers in need.
However, the thought of not knowing how
questioned your mind as days went by.
A little disbelief, a little distress-you knew you had to concur the quest.
Then, a man of the cloth approached you one day, answered the questioned that set you astray,
How had you actually accomplished this demand?
The answer seemed so simple from this amazing man.
"He from above has given you strength to fulfill your duties of this historic event.
For HE is with you in all that you do-to lead to guide, to help you through."
Should you, Brent, be beckoned to return to the site, your questioned will be answered before your flight.

About this poem

I wrote this poem for a friend of mine, Brent. He volunteered his time to go to New York to help comfort those affected by the 9-1-1 disaster.
