Analysis of Something

Something here now that wasn’t here before.
That something that awakens my senses,
Giving me now an appetite for life,
That life had not afforded me before
I knew something.

I come after it with a keen notion.
Like an eagle who has spotted his feast.
I now see the important things in life,
That life’s highways had ne’er before been paved
‘Afore I knew something.

It’s now the summertime of opening.
We both alike scatter seeds of blossom,
Such colours and fragrances that delight,
Strewn like strands of discarded confetti
Now I know something.

To each the lilies are gilded to each.
We wear our fingers rough in picking them,
But must take care when reaching near the thorns,
As rose, so innocent, can play her tricks
When knowing something.

But is this chance encounter just a game?
One of us on one side of each other,
Evenly matched yet really, quite different,
Walking a line of apple and pear trees
That know something.

We wend our ways and wonder what life wants.
I know we both want what we can offer,
Not just to ourselves, but to those we meet
When teaching or treating as we both do
For something.

Yes, this something is more than morning sun.
More than moon’s changing faces or stars’ lights,
More than the warming glow in winter’s chill
And more than your welcoming warmth that smiles -
At being something.
