Analysis of The Stray
Jon E Walker 1968 (OK)
Sometimes you see best in the dark.
I knew then this canine needed an ark.
details appear as I flash by.
A Swift head snaps to lock my eye.
Knowing what I must do and crushed by what I could not.
Impossible to call and only a shot.
Halt and help to renew or reunite.
Who left you here on such a night?
Forcing my rig off, and grinding way down.
Against protocol; most would frown.
The warrant now signed, as I pass by.
Unrealistic expectations to haunt me now.
Lazy shade and a cooling wind,
Will be yours, one day my friend.
Find that path home and commit to stay,
You have a name, you are not a stray.
