Analysis of 2018/11/02 ~ Memories

Grief-stricken and grief-ridden
And people think I'm fine.
Cousin, why'd you have to go
When you were only seventeen?

Those memories we shared
Those years ago in time.
People think I've forgot
But you've stayed in my mind.

We joked around, cut up, and laughed.
We talked and talked all the time.
It was as if we'd known each other forever
But it was only a year of our lives.

You were nine. I was seven.
We built towers and forts.
We thought we ruled the world,
Thought we could heal and hurt with our words.

Death's grip took ahold of you,
But nothing can take away
The memories we shared
From when we used to play.

If the dead could speak,
I'd ask you to tell me
Why you had to leave so soon
When you were only seventeen.

Darlin, I just have to ask,
Why couldn't you have stayed a little longer?
We coulda met one last time,
Made one last memory together.

Cousin, why'd you have to leave so soon?
All that's left of you are treasured memories
Held so dear and near my heart
Ne'er to leave like you did so suddenly.
