Analysis of Love Song
Mother city suckles them, pantheon cats,
Breath of fountains upon warm skin;
Rambling fingers in dark hair
Intruding softly,
Stirring forgotten fragrances.
Indigo lattice frames the moon
Over the domes and towers.
Opening doors, beckoning--
Voices from ancient dreams ?
Whispers from the cloisters ?
We have all suffered what you suffer.
Late spring melts
Night pigeons in the square.
Eglantine stirs the sleepers.
The city dreams of falling shadows,
Twilight pines below the ramparts
And deserted columns.
The dreaming city recalls
Silence reaching through the dying light
To touch a hand, be whole again.
