Analysis of The Island of Sacrifice

The story I tell you, I tell you in truth
Though it's not to offend if needing proof
But what I saw, I'll never forget –

We anchored according to depth and tide
The rosary beads clanged against my side
The natives were naked, and so young –

They thought we were gods in our armor
We showed to them gold, we hoped to garner
They motioned for us which way to go –

The deep forest green so thick and wild
By visions of riches, our minds were beguiled
Medina del Campo was in my heart –

My body was wet and it longed for the breeze
That brushed on my face and twisted the leaves
Something was telling me that we were near –

The jungle then opened, and before us a path
Upon reaching its end we all stood aghast
The face of a demon was cut out in stone –

What we saw then was a gruesome sin
The parts of a child ripped limb from limb
And blood was painted on the walls –

Then from the brush came some evil priests
With blood in their hair and holes in their teeth
One was dressed in human skin –

Forgive me this image that I've depicted
But it's meant to explain why we did what we did
Judge me by my swords if it had been in your hand –
